3 Ways To Start Your Decluttering Journey Today-Declutter Plan 101

Most people who find out what I do, start off with

“Oh, my gosh I SO need you in my life!”

And it’s true, I help people every day to go from that “overwhelmed to overjoyed” feeling and I love it. BUT there are also some real game-changers you can do that will help YOU start on that decluttering journey and today I’m going to share 3 that I believe you can take action on right now.

They aren’t big, BUT the results in the stress they can free you from are!

Here we go, Decluttering Journey 101-

Make Your Bed

I know, your mom has been preaching this one for years, and I have to tell ya, she’s 100 right! This one-step, (that seriously only takes at most five minutes) can help make it easier to declutter your space.

And here’s WHYthis one step starts your day off on the right foot.

It gives you one thing already off your list!

Go you, Goal accomplished!

Big check mark of happy right here!

And here’s why…this one action can be such a game-changer.

Full hands?

Now you have a place to set it down (but only for a moment)

Need to change the baby? No problem, you can!

BUT most importantly…

Need a place that looks inviting to steal a couple of minutes away, just for you.

Grab your favorite book, or slip on audio and your good to go!

Your bedroom should be your retreat, your place to escape the world, the madness of the job, the craziness of the kids… a warm inviting place to snuggle in and feel safe.

Now seriously, girl, tell me you wouldn’t want to hide away in this room, or feel refreshed just peeking in the door to this serene space created by @the_cityfarmhouse

Even if it’s just for 15 mins not having to move anything, and that quick getaway is going to leave you feeling refreshed and ready to handle the rest of the day!

PLUS…if you don’t get the 101 other things off your list done –at least you accomplished this one.

Never Go To Bed With Dirty Dishes

I know for a lot of us this is HARD.

You’re exhausted.

The kids are finally down. The Mr. needs attention. The dog needs out.

And the list of all you need to do is still giving you the “stink eye”.

But honestly, this one sets the tone for the next day. This one is going to either start your day off with feeling

Yes, I’m ready, bring on the day

or that yesterday is still hanging over your head.

Don’t give those dishes that power, instead, take an extra 15 minutes to get that sink in order.

Run that dishwasher, scrub that pan, or take some time and listen to a great podcast, a chapter of your audio, or song on the radio as you scrub away!

I promise it will return to you 10-fold the following day.

SO, ladies, as the FLY LADY says, “Shine that sink”.

Take 10 minutes a night to rehome lost items.

Put shoes away so there is no mad searching.

Keys where you can find them.

Lost toys in their spaces.

Homework returned to book bags.

AND don’t do this alone.

Get the family to help. Littles love to help.

Teenagers, that might be a different story…lol, but encourage and set the example and the expectation.

They just might surprise you after a while and when there is no mad rushing the following day and everyone (most importantly YOU) will be in a more productive, joyful state.

It might take a couple of days, weeks or even months before it becomes a habit, and you see real change here with family. BUT eventually, it does happen… it just takes consistency!

Well, lovelies, I hope you find these 3 tips helpful.

That they inspire you to let go of what is holding you back. That they encourage you to love yourself exactly where you are at (hot messes included), and that you find just a few practices you can use to help get you started on your decluttering journey.
