Design Changes that Make a Big Impact
It’s that time again, time to rip open the curtains and let in the light, and that means really looking at our spaces.
Seeing what we love, and unfortunately what we don’t!
But before you pull out the credit card, and burn that baby up…. let’s chat about four things to consider to make the most of your current space without breaking the bank, and maybe saving some of that tax-refund for a rainy day! Let’s talk design changes that make a BIG impact!
And yes, I promise you will still love the space when we are done.
Paint!
Consider what a new color or even lack of color could do for your space. Have the walls become too bright? Or not bright enough?
Consider a new color, one of the hot ones for 2021 is this gorgeous… Blissful Blue!
But if that is not your color no worries… check out all the great colors for 2021 and when you think about paint don’t just think of the walls! You can bring a great piece of furniture to new life with just a little bit of elbow grease and paint! And with chalk paint now it’s even easier. From front doors to grandma’s dated headboard, just a little love, and BOOM baby! You have a whole new look and that dresser sitting on the curb? Well, again a little love and you could have an entirely new space
Do it yourself!!!
You won’t believe how much you can save when you DIY it!
There are so many YouTube videos, tutorials, and even classes (ok, maybe before COVID, but I have faith they are coming back) that you can take. So put on the sweats, pull out the tools and trust girlfriend, at least with the little things, ” you’ve got this” or better yet, call up a girlfriend to “got it” with. And go to work.
One of the BIG trends right now other than painting is … Wallpaper! And man is it making a come back!
With so many beautiful spaces transformed a small investment and a bit of time you can see why! (anyone else swooning over here?) And with “peel and stick” it’s a BIG CHANGE in your space… you can change again and again!
Recycle, Reuse and Repurpose!
OK, this is one that is not only going to make you happy, and your bank account happy but Mother Nature happy as well. And that my friend is a WIN/WIN/WIN! So what exaxtly does this mean? Well for starters, what is one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
So, before going new, check out the great places that people “let go” of what no longer serves them.
Garage sales, flee markets, Facebook market place. SO many options… so little time.
But seriously, before you go new, check out what might already be. Make a list of what your looking for first, but it never hurts to check out what you might be missing. The style that no longer makes “Jo-blow” (or Jill) happy might be just what you are looking for! Plus, if you haven’t been to antique store or flee-market lately, I’m telling you, you’re missing out! So grab your bestie or main squeeze and go see what you can find.
It’s where I found my ROOSTER and I just love him!
Go shopping in your own space!
YEP, I know… WHAT?!?
But seriously, one of the biggest and best design changes you can make that will make a big impact is to go shopping in your own space with intention!
Now, really look at what’s there, and what doesn’t fit in your current space might be perfect for another space or room!
You will be surprised at what you can move somewhere else and fall in love with all over again.
Like that perfect pair of well loved winter PJ’s. It just needs another chance to remind you of why you’ve loved it so long.
Need a pro tip?
Take out your camera and take a shot of your space. What doesn’t fit?
Who’s the odd duck out?
This is the item that isn’t serving you in that space.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve used this trick for clients!
It helps with what I call “clutter blindness.” when we see something somewhere for so long; we just stop seeing it.
This gives you new eyes, to see what is truly there and how you can reuse or repurpose it!
BONUS Consideration 🙂
Ok, I know I said 4, but once I got going I just couldn’t stop, and this one is so fun….
Have a exchange with your girlfriends!
Call about 5-6 of your best gal pals and let them know you’re ready to spruce up your space, (I’m guessing the bug will have them too) and invite them to decor party. Have them gather up anything that no longer serves their space… pillows, curtains, décor, whatever, and have an exchange!
Everything in FREE for whomever takes it.
What no one wants donate to a great cause like, His Helping Hands, or whatever is in your area and help someone else by giving what no longer serves you a second life.
So, I hope you found this helpful and can’t wait to see what you do in your space.
P.S. if you’re on Insta, look me up, tag me when you share your pics. I can’t wait to see what you do!
